Landmark Develops New Software for
Caterpillars Engine Division.
The
Landmark

announced today they have completed development on an Integrated
Project Manager Application software for Caterpillars Engine
Division. The software, originally developed for Peterson Power
Systems, Inc. (a Northern California Caterpillar dealer), was
modified for Caterpillar after Peterson Power Systems, Inc. showed
the new software to a very impressed Caterpillar. After further
study, Caterpillar determined this was a solution that could
benefit all of its engine dealers.
According to Jeff Goggin, Vice President and General Manager of
Peterson Power Systems, Inc., "As a result of this project,
Peterson Power Systems, Inc. is reporting significant,
quantifiable improvements in its ability to handle dramatically
increasing sales volume while improving overall profitability in a
very competitive, low margin business."
Landmark analyzed Petersons existing workflow related to
Project Management, Contact Management and Inventory. Landmark
then proposed and developed a solution to stream-line Petersons
current business processes in the sales department.
In order for this solution to be usable by other dealers,
modifications had to be made to the system developed for Peterson.
Caterpillar contracted with The

and Peterson Power Systems, to develop the product further for
Caterpillar. Once completed, Caterpillar would then make available
and sell this product to all of its dealers world-wide. As
part of the preparation for this project, Caterpillar invited and
sponsored Landmark programmers to travel to Amsterdam to visit
with several of their dealers. This was critical in order to get
the International perspective needed to make this product viable
world-wide.
Caterpillar, Inc. now calls the product "Engine Business
Management System" (EBMS). It will become the core offering
to engine dealers for an integrated project management application
for their power systems sales tool kit. It will also become the
foundation for an integrated solution with DBS, (Dealer Business
System) a core operating system for Caterpillar and its
dealers.
Development was completed June 30th, 1999 less than
one year from inception. The project now moves into a beta testing
phase where 12 dealers worldwide will install, use and evaluate
the product for several months. When released for general
availability, EBMS may include additional core functions, features
and interfaces as determined by the pilot dealers.
